Star Q
Maids may snub Malaysia - Nation | The Star Online
I hope this statement that appeared in the papers before Christmas last year, will indeed be turned into a certainty instead of a possibility. I can hear parents (if there are any reading this entry at all! Haha!) expressing their disagreements loudly and seething through their flaring nostrils in anger!
But before, tempers start to flare, let me just highlight a few examples parents who never really required the aid of maids in their families; not to help in raising their children or cleaning the house or whatever else that the working parents nowadays seem to find difficult to accomplish without the aid of maids!
There are in fact many sterling examples of parents who work and never had to have the assistance of maids in their homes. One such couple happen to be friends of mine who, without the help of maids, have successfully raised their children; one is a PhD holder, another a teacher, a son who is an ustaz and another a doctor! When asked how they managed, they said that they did all the house chores, like washing the clothes, sweeping and cleaning the house, at night. They even prepared the next day's lunch at night, then freeze them so that when they come home they can re-heat the dishes and meals could be ready in a jiffy.
They are proud to say that their children never became latch-key children because they always had (and still do) have good neighbors to keep an eye on their children (and they still do!) Plus, whatever chores the children can help with around the house, would all be completed once their parents get home!
I feel that maids are really an unnecessary addition to a family's monthly expenditure. As in the example I have given above, I think it all depends on how the parents manage the chores at home and how they get their children to contribute in completing the chores! Money that would have been otherwise ridiculously used to pay a maid's exorbitant salary, can be happily used for the family. Any balance can of course be extended in the form of small tokens of appreciations to the neighbors who help.
