Family or Work?

Star Q

It's the weekend and you have been looking forward to it all week long.  You know you have been brave throughout the week; taking all the indiscipline and bad manners the students have to throw at you head on.  You do every thing you can to keep stress, distress and depression at bay, by keeping yourself calm under all these seemingly futile situations.  All because you have the weekend to look forward to; the two days to be with your family.

However, of late, quite a number of these weekends, Saturdays especially have now been delegated to the students whether activities for and with them are held in the school or elsewhere.  It seems that the more than eight hours a day spent being confronted with such hyperactive and less than well-behaved children doesn't seem to be enough anymore.  It seems like the distress of being locked up with these over-bearing students (some of them) is being taken lightly by people in certain quarters, so much so that now we have to bear with these students during weekends!

These people-in-certain-quarters always have quick responses when we confront them with our refusal to sacrifice our weekends.  Responses like; think about the students, we can strengthen their moral values, we can build their self-esteem and every other response under the sun.  Haven't all that been done during the school hours?  Isn't more than eight hours a day (most of the time more than that!) enough?  When then do we actually get to spend quality time with our own families?  Think about what that will do our self-esteem?

In order not to be judgmental to the people-in-certain-quarters, I will only give my own view about how I feel my quality time with my family during the weekends should be like (and has always been)  Quality time with my family for me, among others, is to be in the comfort of our home, to have lunch together,  to chat and laugh about our Monday-to-Friday endeavors and to help each other get over our problems.  That's a quality weekend for me.

After Two Years.....

Can't believe that I have been too busy to write that I have actually left this blog untouched for two long years.  A lot of thing...
