Star Q
Many things have been said about what you post onto the walls of Facebook. We are constantly reminded not to put up pictures that incriminate us in the future or statements that can hurt other people or even videos that are deemed not fit for public viewing.
Unfortunately there are still many people who do not think about what they post and in the process make jokes and poke fun and the statements while others fume in anger or cringe in frustration.
One such statement posted on the walls of Facebook was made by one former student in my school who is now in his final year in university. He has just finished his teaching practical and will be posted to school anywhere between the end of this year and early next year.
In his statement he said that a headmistress approached him and was eager to have him come and teach in her school. He laughed it off saying that being a graduate teacher he would only be teaching form six and that teachers from the teachers training colleges are more suited to teaching in primary schools. Even if he were to teach in a primary school, it would only be as a relief teacher (more cynical laughter in 'haha' form)
The statement made by him was so unbecoming of a person who will in a few months become a teacher. His statement was not only derogatory to the teachers teaching in primary schools but also indicates that he is still immature and is probably not spiritually ready to become a full-fledged teacher. His double-standard statement lacks maturity and any sense of remorse, and only proves to show that he would probably be slightly irresponsible with a lackadaisical attitude in the future.
I'm sorry if I sound a bit judgemental, but teaching is a noble profession. Teaching may not require a noble person to enter its realms as a teacher but at least the teacher should have respect for his profession which means he should embrace the idea that all teachers are one! This oneness in the teaching profession is one of the things that makes this profession a noble one!
