Only For Those Worthy Enough

Star Q

Once a while you get very generous people, philanthropist if you will, doing good deeds and at the same time not wanting other people to know about.  It is however, not always possible to hide from the public, a good deed of such an immense generosity mainly because the people (or just one person!) on the receiving end of this deal will eventually spill the beans.  Besides, the public will eventually get to know about it because such a noteworthy gesture is the thing that popular media is hungry for and is always ready to disseminate.

In the case of one particular local millionaire who graciously offered to pay for the 'umrah' of 120 Malaysians including some well-known artistes (and some not-so-well-known ones!) it is indeed something not every one can do or in fact, is willing to do.  I refuse to, once again, be judgemental as to the motives of this generous donor especially in including artistes because it is a known fact, anything that involve this group of people (artistes) will definitely garner public interest.

On the other hand, I am wondering as to why a few particular artistes are also included in this programme.  The individual artiste who was given the responsibility by the millionaire to choose deserving artistes to be given a chance to do the 'umrah' should have made sure that among them include those who are really deserving; old for one.  And then there is the matter of personal financial situation.  I seem to notice among those included in the team is a pair of artistes who have working children (who could have supported their own parents to do the 'umrah')  There is also another artiste who has an offspring who is also in the same profession.

My humble thoughts immediately went to the more deserving ones who have in some way been denied the opportunity to do the 'umrah'.  Elderly artistes who are not active in the industry anymore and who have no steady income; artistes who live from hand to mouth and who have no offspring or relatives to take care of them.  In short, artistes who really have nothing and no one!  These are the artistes who should have been given the chance to go.  The individual who was given the responsibility to find deserving artistes to go in this 'umrah' should not have 'looked around' in his immediate circle, but to really go all out to make sure that really deserving ones go which I am sure, there are still many.

With that small shortsightedness on the responsible person's part, more deserving ones have been denied this opportunity.  Perhaps the person responsible for forming this group shouldn't have been in the group either.  Come to think of it, he is quite well off.  If marriage is the sign of wealth (since he has been married at least three times!) than this man is considered wealthy and should have relinquished his ticket to do the 'umrah' to someone else more deserving.
