The Cat That Waits

Star Q

Once you take care of animals as your pets, cats especially, they become loyal to you albeit the occasional show of tantrums and disobedience once in a while.  But that is only to expected of these loving pets that we adore.

However, the loyalty of this particular cat that I am writing about in this entry will go unnoticed by it's owners (now former owners) who have moved out of the house that they have been renting more than a year into a more comfortable abode. Some how they have conveniently forgotten to take this furry feline along with them.

This black and white cat was originally a stray cat thrown by some irresponsible character.  I caught a glimpse of the criminal leaving the cat on the sidewalk a year ago, along with another orange cat.  Since it was originally someone's pet, someone who obviously has grown out of favor for it, the cat was and still is very tame.  Initially, it constantly came to our front porch, mewing sympathetically for some morsels of food.  But since I already have a cat, plus two other stray cats which I take it upon myself to feed them, I decided not take on the added responsibility of caring for another cat for fear that I may somehow neglect it.

But this neighbor of mine decided to feed this black and white cat, usually scraps of leftover food their three young boys did not manage to finish.  They did not really take care of the cat, but merely fed it.  But like I mentioned earlier in this entry, cats being cats, once you care for them, they become quite loyal to you.

It has been a week since my neighbor moved out from the house next door to us and the cat has been waiting longingly for just as long in front of the locked gate outside the vacated house.  A heartbreaking situation indeed.  If these people did not want to keep the cat, they shouldn't have fed (threw scraps at!) the cat in the first place.

So, anyone out there reading this entry who has any intention of feeding stray cats at your homes by giving your food scraps to them, think again.  It is more humane to ignore them from the very beginning than gaining their trust and loyalty by feeding them and then destroying that trust by abandoning them!

As a human being, it is easier for you to say "that is not my cat", but the cat can never have the chance to say "that is my owner", which it can only show through it's loyalty to you.  And it takes a great human being to recognize and understand that!

After Two Years.....

Can't believe that I have been too busy to write that I have actually left this blog untouched for two long years.  A lot of thing...
